
Shamini Saravanabavan is a Neurology speciality registrar at Cambridge University Hospital and a LifeArc clinical fellow.
She studied MBBS at King’s College London (2015) and BSc (Hons) in Neuroscience (2012). Here, she developed her passion for research and Neurology. She joined the Academic Clinical Fellowship Programme (NIHR-funded) as a neurology registrar working in various hospitals in the East of England deanery. During this time, she treated patients with a variety of neurological diseases, including neurogenetic conditions. This opened Shamini’s eyes not only to many challenges faced but also to the importance of working alongside those affected by rare diseases. She is joining MitoCAMB as a LifeArc clinical Fellow, identifying biomarkers to aid monitoring and treatment effectiveness, supervised by Professor Rita Horvath and Dr Jelle van den Ameele.
