Katherine Schon

Katherine Schon is an NIHR-funded Academic Clinical Lecturer in the Department of Medical Genetics. She is in her final year of specialist training in Clinical Genetics.

She completed her PhD on mitochondrial disease in 2023, supervised by Professor Chinnery and Professor Horvath. Her PhD was funded by the Addenbrooke’s Charitable Trust and the MRC International Centre for Genomic Medicine in Neuromuscular Disorders (ICGNMD).

Katherine’s research focuses on the molecular diagnosis, natural history and treatment of mitochondrial disorders. Katherine is working with the National Disease Registration Service to use routinely collected healthcare data to learn more about mitochondrial disorders. She is also interested in Ataxia-Telangiectasia and Congenital Insensitivity to Pain Horvath.
